Anal machines

Anal sex machines that let you start slow and shallow

An anal machine is really just a thrusting machine that can go slow and shallow, with a slim dildo on the end. Get those three things right and you can take things at your own pace, which is the whole point.

How I review: I don't test products hands-on. I check what the maker says about the specs, materials, warranty and returns, then match each one to the people it suits. Just so you know, I earn a little if you buy through my links. It doesn't change what I tell you, and I'll happily tell you not to buy something. My review method.

Slow, shallow and slim: the three things that matter most

The anus doesn't stretch or make its own lubrication the way a vagina does, so the machine has to let you take it easy. Any thrusting machine can technically be used for anal, but these three things decide whether it's comfortable.

  1. Slow. Most makers only publish the top speed, which annoys me, because for anal the slowest setting matters much more. The Doc Johnson is the only one here that gives a real number for its slowest speed, 28 strokes a minute.
  2. Shallow. Stroke length is how far the dildo moves in and out. The Hismith Anal Play Kit goes as short as 1.3 in, and an adjustable stroke lets you go deeper only when you're ready.
  3. Slim. Look for a slim, smooth or tapered dildo made of body-safe silicone. If the maker doesn't say what a dildo is made of, don't put it in your body.

It also helps to have an easy way to stop, like a big stop button or a simple wired controller, and to check the connector (KlicLok, 3XLR or Vac-U-Lock), because that decides which anal dildos you can buy for it later.

So which one should you get?

For most people it's the Hismith Anal Play Kit, because it's the only machine here that comes with slim silicone anal dildos in the box, and its stroke goes as short as 1.3 in. If you want app control and something smaller, look at the Lovense Mini Sex Machine and add a slim dildo.

When a machine isn't the right move

Machines are great if you're curious about anal or prostate play and want to go at your own pace, or if you find it tiring to hold a toy at the right angle. But if you have pain, bleeding or a medical condition down there, please see a doctor first, and if you can't set the machine on a steady surface, wait until you can.

EUR 499 Starter (Pro EUR 699, Ultimate EUR 749) on the maker site, no USD price shown

#1

Best for: People who want a machine that comes ready for anal, with slim silicone anal dildos in the box and a stroke you can turn way down.

What it does well

  • Three slim silicone anal dildos come in the box, and the maker says none of them is wider than 1.3 in
  • The stroke goes as short as 1.3 in, so you can start shallow and work up to about 5 in
  • A clear warranty: 1 year on the machine and 2 years on the motor
  • KlicLok dildos click on and lock, and Hismith sells lots of other anal shapes that fit

Where it falls short

  • The maker only publishes the top speed, so you can't check how slow it starts
  • The Starter only has a wired controller, and app control costs EUR 200 more with the Pro
  • The maker doesn't say how heavy or loud it is
  • Prices are only in euros, so the US cost depends on the exchange rate
Who'll love it: Anal beginners and anyone curious about prostate play who wants the right dildos in the box instead of shopping for them separately.

Lovense Mini Sex Machine

$399 on sale when checked (the maker lists two different full prices)

#2

Best for: People who want a compact machine with an adjustable stroke, app control a partner can use from anywhere, and a published noise figure.

What it does well

  • You can adjust the stroke up to 3 in, which suits slow, shallow play
  • The maker tells you how loud it is: 60 dB at most
  • A partner can take over from anywhere by opening a Control Link
  • Vac-U-Lock fits lots of dildos you can buy elsewhere, including slim anal ones
  • It has an emergency stop button, and at 7 lb it's easy to put away

Where it falls short

  • The dildo in the box is a regular shape, so for anal you'll want to buy a slim one
  • Only the top speed is published, not how slow it goes
  • It needs a wall outlet, there's no battery
  • The "10-year guarantee" is really a discount on a new machine, and the actual warranty is 1 year
Who'll love it: Long-distance couples, people who already use Lovense toys, and anyone who wants a proper machine that still fits in a closet.

Hismith Table Top 2.0 Pro

EUR 339 Pro (48 W) or EUR 369 Max (100 W) on the maker site, no USD price shown

#3

Best for: People who want a mid-priced tabletop machine where you can change the stroke without tools, and who don't mind adding a slim anal dildo.

What it does well

  • You can change the stroke from 1.8 to 4.8 in without any tools
  • The tabletop frame is smaller than a full floor machine
  • It runs on 110-250 V, so it works in the US and abroad
  • Hismith's own set of three slim silicone anal dildos (EUR 85) clicks right on

Where it falls short

  • There's no anal dildo in the box, so plan on about EUR 85 more for one
  • The maker says "quiet" but won't give a number
  • The page contradicts itself on whether app control is included or costs extra
  • Only the top speed is published, not the slowest setting
Who'll love it: People who want to adjust how deep it goes, at a middle price, and don't mind buying the anal dildos separately.

Auxfun Affordable Anal Sex Machine with 5 Dildos

EUR 129 wired, EUR 159 app version on the maker store, no USD price shown

#4

Best for: People on a tight budget who want to find out if anal with a machine is for them before spending hundreds.

What it does well

  • At EUR 129, it's by far the cheapest machine on this list
  • A 7.9 in slim anal dildo comes in the box, along with four others
  • The short 2.4 in stroke keeps things shallow, which suits beginners
  • The maker tells you it stays under 60 dB at full speed

Where it falls short

  • The maker doesn't say what the anal dildo is made of, and two of the other dildos are PVC, not silicone
  • The page gives two different top speeds, so you can't be sure which one is right
  • The warranty is only 6 months
  • It only has suction cups, so it needs a smooth, flat surface
Who'll love it: Curious beginners on a tight budget who want a slim anal dildo included.

  • At 4.4 lb, it's light enough to carry with one hand
  • You can use an app or the remote
  • A silicone dildo comes in the box
  • It works on 110-250V power, so it's fine outside the US too

Where it falls short

  • The stroke is short, at 1.8 in
  • The maker itself calls it "noisy", and I respect the honesty
  • The returns policy isn't on the product page

Alternative sex machines you should consider

It might look like a sweet deal at EUR 129, but the Auxfun bundle doesn't say what its anal dildo is made of, and two of the other dildos are PVC. If it's going inside you, you deserve to know what it is. If your budget is tight, buy the Auxfun for the machine and add a slim silicone 3XLR dildo, or save up for the Hismith Anal Play Kit, which tells you exactly what you're getting.

And if you're looking at the $999.99 Doc Johnson machine for anal, the Hismith kit costs about half as much and comes with the anal dildos already in the box.

The anal questions people are most embarrassed to ask

Can you use a sex machine for anal?

Yes, as long as you pick the right machine and take it slow. Look for a short or adjustable stroke, a slow starting speed, and a slim, tapered dildo made of body-safe silicone. Use plenty of lube, start at the lowest setting with the shortest stroke, and stop if anything hurts.

What stroke length is best for anal beginners?

Shorter is better when you're starting out. The machines in this guide go as short as 1.3 in (the Hismith Anal Play Kit) and 1.8 in (the Hismith Pro Traveler 2.0 and Table Top 2.0). An adjustable stroke lets you start shallow and go deeper only when you're ready.

What kind of lube should I use with an anal machine?

Use plenty of it, and reapply often, because the anus doesn't make its own lubrication. Water-based lube is safe with every dildo material. Silicone lube lasts longer but can damage silicone dildos, so check what the maker says first.

Do I need a special dildo for anal?

You want one that's slim, smooth or tapered, and made of body-safe silicone, with a flared or locked base so it can't slip off the machine. Only one machine here, the Hismith Anal Play Kit, comes with silicone anal dildos in the box. For the others, plan to buy a slim dildo that fits the machine's connector.

Before you start

A bar of soap and a scrub brush on clean folded towels, photo by Kaboompics on Pexels

Go to the bathroom first, trim your nails if you'll be using your hands, and wash the dildo before and after every use. Use more lube than you think you need, start at the slowest speed with the shortest stroke, and stay in control of the remote. Anal should never hurt, so if it does, stop, and if pain or bleeding doesn't go away, see a doctor. Go slow, because nobody's timing you and the machine has all night.

Check that the dildo locks onto the machine properly, too, and never swap in a toy without a flared base. In federal ER data on sex toy injuries, 95% of the ER visits linked to butt plugs and anal beads were a toy that got stuck inside.
